FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our embroidery, printing, and uniform services.
Artwork & Design
What if I don't have a logo yet?
No problem — ID Uniforms has an in-house design team who can help you develop a brand new company logo from scratch. Get in touch and we'll talk you through the options.
What design formats do you accept?
We accept any format as long as the image is clear. We can read: TIF, GIF, JPG, CDR, AI, EPS, PDF and WMF.
We prefer larger, vector-based formats such as EPS, AI, WMF, or high-resolution JPG (300dpi+). As with any digital process, the better the source image, the better the final product.
How do I send you my artwork?
You can use the upload link on our website or email us directly at info@iduniforms.co.uk.
For large files (over 10MB) please call us first so we know it's on its way. We're also happy to accept files on disc or work from paper designs (a small conversion charge may apply).
Can you send me a proof before I order?
Absolutely. Before you commit to an order, we'll happily supply a mock-up showing exactly how your garment will look — so you can make sure everything is perfect before we get started.
Embroidery & Printing
What's a set-up charge?
The set-up charge covers converting (digitising) your logo into a format our machines can use. For embroidery, this creates precise stitch-by-stitch instructions. For screen printing, we produce screens to mask off areas of fabric. For vinyl transfers, we vectorise your logo so our cutters can reproduce it accurately.
Once created, your files are stored securely — so on reorders with the same design, no additional set-up charge applies.
Who owns the digitised embroidery file?
ID Uniforms owns the digitised file. You pay once for the set-up, and there's no charge on reorders unless you want changes to the design. If you have a file previously digitised by another embroidery shop, send it to us and we can use it — this can reduce your set-up fee.
How many colours can I have in my design?
Our embroidery machines support up to 15 colours per design. Screen printing supports up to 6 colours, while vinyl transfers can be produced in full colour or cut from different coloured vinyls. Note that embroidery uses solid colours only — gradient or faded effects aren't possible with thread.
Can you embroider caps?
Yes — we can embroider the front and sides of caps as a standard service.
Can I have individual names on garments?
Yes. Monogramming (individual names or initials) is one of our specialist services. For school garments, we recommend initials only rather than full names for child safety reasons.
What colours are available?
We stock a wide range of standard thread, vinyl and ink colours. If you need a specific Pantone or colour match, we'll work with you to get as close as possible. Exact matches may require us to source specific threads, vinyls or inks at an additional cost.
Orders & Delivery
What are your minimum and maximum order quantities?
The minimum is just one item — there is no maximum. That said, unit costs become more competitive the larger the order, so it's worth getting in touch if you're ordering in bulk.
How soon will my order be ready?
We aim to turn orders around within one week of approval. If you need something faster, contact us and we'll do our best to help.
What delivery options are available?
You're welcome to collect from our Hoylake shop at 1 Carr Lane, Hoylake, Wirral CH47 4BG. We offer free local delivery. For further afield, we use Royal Mail and courier services.
Can I supply my own garments for embroidery or printing?
Yes, you can supply your own items. However, ID Uniforms cannot accept responsibility for any damage that may occur during the decoration process. If we supply the garment and a mistake happens, it's on us — if you supply it, any loss is at your cost. We can often save you money by purchasing garments on your behalf through our supplier volume discounts.
Payment & Returns
How can I pay?
We accept Credit/Debit Card (via NatWest Merchant Services — not American Express), BACS bank transfer, cheque, and PayPal via our online shop.
Non-account customers are asked to pay in full with order. Account customers have 14 working days from receipt of goods. Telephone payments are also available — please call us to arrange.
If an order is cancelled after placement, a 25% restocking charge applies.
What is your returns policy?
We cannot accept returns on decorated, worn, washed or discounted garments under any circumstances. If there is a fault on our part, we will of course rectify this at our cost.
Can I claim tax relief on embroidered workwear?
If your clothing features a company logo it may qualify as uniform or workwear, meaning you could be eligible to claim tax relief on the cost of the garments or their laundering. Visit the HMRC or Uniform Tax Rebate website for full details on eligibility.
Where can I find your full terms and conditions?
Our full terms and conditions are available at iduniforms.co.uk/terms.
